It’s true, human beings are creative creatures. And we all have a tendency to think we are more creative than the rest! Or, if you’re one of those who has a great idea – but not the talent or inclination to bring it to life – you may have a trusted friend or family member to do it for you……and that’s where it can get messy.
You see, believe it or not, being creative is more than just an urge to paint the kitchen green. In the marketing and advertising industry – its the life blood of the very people who do this for a living. It may not always seems so – but even that bit of copy that goes onto the back of your favorite breakfast cereal was carefully dreamed up, scratched out, planned and prepared until it was just right. So, what does that mean for you as a business?
Well, just like when someone gets up the courage to point out that green in the kitchen isn’t exactly appetizing – there might be a time to call in the professionals.
And, when you’re working with a true professional – creative isn’t just a chance to sit and brainstorm with someone – there are some things to keep in mind. A truly professional creative team (which can be any members of your advertising & marketing team) are going to give you their expertise and experience and guide you to a place that will align with your business and your brand while connecting to your target audience.
It’s a challenge – but after you’ve given your input and thoughts – take a deep breath and take a step back. This really is about the alchemy that occurs when your ideas and business needs meet with a team of dedicated professionals who have your best interests in mind. It most often is not about asking someone to match your vision step by step, word for word. That’s called a computer (or your nephew who took a design class) – and that doesn’t offer you any of the professional skills that should come with the package.
So – get creative! Sketch out your thoughts, rip pages out of your favorite magazines, write down the words that give you a certain chill! Then sit down with your creative team – share with them what you’ve come up with…..and trust that you are in good hands. And that’s when you know you’ve got it right – you feel a sense of trust and so you do just that – you trust. Trust and a little creativity can work magic!
